I first met the talented, creative and amazing Peter Indorf in 1978 when I was a first year graduate student at Yale Divinity School. My fiance (also at the Divinity School) and I went to his store on Chapel Street In New Haven, CT. Peter was quiet, thoughtful, soft spoken ... with a great and ready sense of humor. I liked and trusted him immediately. We sat with him for over an hour and discussed our hopes and dreams for the engagement ring and for our future. My fiance presented Peter with a very old fashioned engagement ring and a not very great diamond that had been in his family. Peter never once tried to 'up-sell' us or let us feel that the diamond was sub par. He treated us like royalty, valued and special clients and gave us lots of time and attention. We settled on a very 'modern' look (for the late 70's!) with a bezel set diamond placed on a wide engagement band in the soft-square format in white gold. He also crafted a simple but gorgeous band for my soon to be husband that matched the width of my wedding and engagement bands together. We received countless compliments over the years. We returned to Peter on the occasion of our fifth wedding anniversary and he created a matching and amazingly beautiful anniversary band set with tiny diamonds. I felt like a queen! Peter is more than a superb designer and craftsman, he is an incredibly sensitive and humble human being. He brings his whole heart and spirit to his work and it shows! Over the years I went to Peter with other requests - please design a 3 diamond ring for my mother (she fell in love with Peter too!), please can you make me a beautiful opal (my birthstone) ring, please can you create a moonstone ring for me which was set with two sapphires. Over and over again the outcome of his work thrilled me. Having survived five years after a diagnosis of the most aggressive type of breast cancer he designed an amazing pendant for me from his Cosmos collection. He engraved the back with a "5" as a constant reminder of what I'd overcome. I've worn it daily ever since. Most recently, I found myself wanting to have a gorgeous 'statement' diamond ring using most of the family diamonds I had in my possession. Without a moment's hesitation, and even though he's 'officially' retired, he took on the project with joy! I'm eagerly awaiting the finished product in a few weeks and I know I'll be 'over the moon'. I'm not someone who is particularly acquisitive or tied to 'things' with only one exception - jewelry by Peter Indorf. In Peter I discovered a true gentleman, a loving and generous human being who strives and succeeds in making every client happy beyond expectations!! I know this is a lengthy review but I have only touched on the highlights of my 40 year friendship and professional relationship with this gifted, creative, superbly talented and one of a kind artist. Our relationship with Peter spans 29 years. I met Peter through a friend who had a ring designed by Peter. When we became engaged Peter refurbished my grandmother's engagement ring to fit my fiancee's finger. We of course bought our wedding rings from Peter and they were beautiful. Virtually every ... Valentine's Day since then, I would drop by Peter's shop on either Chapel St. in New Haven or in Madison, CT to buy beautiful uniquely designed, usually rose or regular gold, earrings for my wife. Boy does she have a lot of earrings, but loves them all! Recently, we were in New Zealand and a bicycle accident caused the Trauma Ward to cut off both my wife's wedding ring and engagement ring. We brought the remains home and, knowing Peter was in FL, I called and made arrangements for repair. The rings were perfectly restored and look wonderful. In 2011 I removed my wedding ring to clean it off and ended up losing it at a soccer game of my boys. Peter luckily had a photo of it from when he updated the setting for me. He made it as close as he could from the reference he ... had. It was lovely, but some things about it just didn't feel right to me.
