This is a special opal necklace, it is handmade and one of a kind.
The opal was mined by Mat Latin of Tariffville, CT when he lived under ground in the Australian outback in an area known as Coober Pedy, which translates from the native language to "white man in a hole". In the Star Wars movie, as a child Hans Solo lived in an underground house if you recall. That underground house was the opal mining area of Coober Pedy.
This opal was described to me as being from the Mintabee mine. The opal is a long oval, measuring 18.5 x 8.5 x 2.7 mm and weighing 3.31 carats. It is a semi-black with a full array of all the spectral colors as you spin it 360 degrees. The dominant color is red, on a dark field of flashes of green and blue.
The opal is set in a serrated bezel and flanked by gold beads and .07 carat total weight of cognac diamonds. The bezel is attached to a fine cable chain that is 18" which can shorten to 16".
